I hope by now that everyone is aware that April is National Grilled Cheese month. If there ever was a food that deserved a month in honor, it is grilled cheese. You can’t go wrong with grilled cheese. This yummy meal only requires 3 ingredients – cheese, bread, and butter – and all 3 of them are amazing. Plus, it’s quick to assemble and cook and requires minimal clean-up. There’s a holiday for practically every food out there, but National Grilled Cheese month is definitely at the top of my list.
If you haven’t already guessed, I love grilled cheese. This month I’ve been indulging in my love for grilled cheese and over the weekend, I had the pleasure of eating a grilled cheese from The Cheesecake Factory.
I know what you’re thinking – 1. why did I go to The Cheesecake Factory?, and 2. why did I go to The Cheesecake Factory only to order a grilled cheese? As to the first question, there’s just something about going to a chain restaurant that is reassuring. You always know what the food will taste like, there are no surprises, and sometimes you just need a big dose of comfort. As to the second question, have you seen the grilled cheeses from The Cheesecake Factory? They are huge! And so cheesy and buttery. I don’t even want to guess how many calories I consumed but it was worth it.
But, back to grilled cheese in general. Here are some delicious facts about grilled cheese:
• The Ancient Romans were the first civilization to make a cooked bread and cheese sandwich.
• In Switzerland it is customary to melt the cheese and toast the bread separately before combining them.
• The classic American grilled cheese sandwich emerged in the 1920s when inexpensive cheese and affordable sliced bread became available.
Now everyone should go out and have a grilled cheese today!
